Lineworks®: FAQs

Q: How does LineWorks differ from rubber sheeting?
A: Adjustments in LineWorks are intelligently controlled. An adjustment in one part of the dataset will not affect any other part. Differential adjustment is possible.

Q: Is LineWorks a product or a service?
A: LineWorks is both a product and a service. Please contact Pixxures for information on purchasing licenses of the LineWorks software. For clients who do not have the time or resources to utilize the software themselves, Pixxures' trained technicians will align your vector layer(s) to more accurate imagery, or more accurate vector layer(s). The work is performed at Pixxures' main headquarters in Arvada, CO, to your specifications, saving you time and money.

Q: Is there a maximum number of layers that can be used with LineWorks?
A: There is no maximum number of layers that can be adjusted. The layers must have the correct spatial relationship to the primary layer used to create the solution.

Q: With what type of software does it interface?
A: LineWorks is standalone software that runs in both Windows and Linux. It natively uses ESRI Shapefiles and E00 files to perform the adjustment.

Q: Does LineWorks maintain data integrity and topology?
A: Yes. LineWorks maintains the data integrity and topology of the original data during the adjustment.

Q: Our dataset is large. Should we break the data into smaller pieces for LineWorks?
A: LineWorks can handle very large datasets so we do not normally recommend breaking up a dataset into smaller pieces. LineWorks even allows multiple operators to work on different areas of the same dataset at the same time.

Q: What is the LineWorks' adjustment solution?
A: The LineWorks adjustment solution is generated by the links placed and is saved as a shapefile. This solution is saved separately from the data to be adjusted and can be applied repeatedly to the same data. It can be edited and updated to meet changing client requirements.

Q: Will LineWorks modify my data attribute information?
A: No. LineWorks moves coordinate data only and will not modify attribute information.

Q: How quickly can my data be aligned? We use the data every day and cannot afford much downtime.
A: Because the adjustment solution is a separate file in LineWorks, the original data is not modified during the creation of the solution. Pixxures’ operators can work on a copy of the data while it is still “live” at the client’s facility. When the adjustment solution is complete, we will use LineWorks to very quickly adjust the data, enabling a very fast turnaround of “live” data.
