Pixxures Provides Scanning, Rectifying and Georeferencing of Army Corps of Engineers’ Historical Aerial Photography

Arvada, Colorado, January 2007 - Pixxures, Inc., a leading provider of aerial mapping, and Web mapping services has been contracted by TLI Solutions, Inc. to provide scanning, georeferencing and orthorectification of historical aerial photography for the Army Corps of Engineers.

This multi-phase project commenced in January of 2005.  In total, TLI Solutions will provide Pixxures with over 2,000 historical images of Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS).  The enhanced historical imagery and data will support the creation of various GIS layers for environmental projects.

The images are being scanned at approximately 1814 DPI to capture about a 14-micron pixel.  These images will be uncompressed into a raw TIFF file.  The TIFF files will then be processed into rectified GeoTIFF files, one image per photo.  The processed tiled mosaic image coverage will encompass an entire single era’s dated series for the total extent of the site.  Pixxures will process the mosaic into a final MrSID compressed orthophoto image that will be used to generate a useable GIS layer.
