Pixxures, Inc. Awarded City of Durango Colorado
Digital Orthophotography Update Project

Arvada, Colorado, October 18, 2007 - Pixxures, Inc., a leading provider of aerial mapping, direct digital image processing, GIS services and imagery Web services, was awarded a contract to provide the City of Durango, Colorado with digitally rectified color orthophotography.

The total existing mapped area encompasses approximately 110 square miles, with the new aerial photography to be approximately 95 square miles. The imagery will be captured using Pixxures’ ADS40-51 digital sensor and Cessna 402C aircraft. "The City of Durango is looking forward to working with Pixxures and obtaining high-quality, updated orthophotos utilizing their cost-effective second generation process," said Lance Frisby, GIS Supervisor for the City of Durango.

The City has experienced a lot of new development over recent years. Their digital orthophotography dated back to 2001 and they were looking to update it for municipal water/sewer associated planning and general GIS needs. The updated orthophotography will be used citywide by all departments for planning, growth, new development, design work, parks, trail work, open space, general location work, tactical mapping and other departmental needs.

"Pixxures was the only company that proposed a second generation approach, as an economical way to deliver the updated imagery to the City," said Ray Postolovski, Sales Representative of Pixxures, Inc. "We will use the City’s existing orthorecified imagery and vector data as the source for horizontal control and the existing terrain model to orthorecify the newly flown imagery," added Postolovski.

The new imagery will be available to the public through the City’s ArcIMS Web Services. "There isn’t a department that doesn’t use this imagery," said Frisby. "It is one of our most popular features in the GIS system," added Frisby.
