Arvada, Colorado, December 05, 2007 - Pixxures, Inc., a leading provider of aerial mapping, direct digital image processing, GIS services and imagery Web services, was awarded a contract to provide La Plata County, Colorado with digitally rectified color orthophotography and planimetric features.

La Plata County is located in southwest Colorado and includes the City of Durango and the Towns of Bayfield and Ignacio.

The County first acquired 1-foot pixel resolution imagery and planimetric features in 2003 to increase the accuracy of their GIS layers. The 2007 project encompasses approximately 460 square miles. Pixxures will acquire new data for the western part of the County that was not flown in the 2003 project.

In addition to the La Plata County project, Pixxures was also awarded the orthophotography project for the City of Durango. Both projects will be flown simultaneously using Pixxures’ ADS40-SH51 digital sensor and Cessna 402C aircraft. Pixxures will provide La Plata County with 1-foot orthorectified color imagery, a new Digital Elevation Model, building footprints and 5-foot contours.

Earlier this year, the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners initiated a strategic planning process called the "La Plata County Compass." The goals of the La Plata County Compass are to build a collective vision of how La Plata County and its communities will look, feel and function in the next ten years and to implement specific action plans for County government for the next three to five years. The La Plata County Compass will address issues such as: housing, transportation, families/health care, economic development and smart growth. "This updated imagery will go a long way in providing valuable information to the County departments for short range and long range strategic planning," said La Plata County GIS Supervisor, Rob Bergstrom.
